What is Origin of Life, part-2 (Introduction and Historical Development)
1. Super natural theory: All the different forms of life that occur today on planet are created by super natural power. It has no scientific basis.
2. Theory of Special Creation: According to this theory all the different forms of life on planet are created by God. Special creation theory believes that the things have not undergone any significant change since their creation. The theory of Special Creation was purely a religious concept, acceptable only on the basis of faith. This idea is found in the ancient scriptures of almost every religion.
The religious views are as follows:
Hindu mythology: Lord Brahma created the living world in one stroke.
Christian & Islam belief: God created this universe, plants, animals and human beings in about six days.
[• 3 main postulates: – All different kinds of animals & plants were created at once. – All organisms were created in the same form in which they exist today. – Their bodies & organs have been designed to fully meet the needs of the environment.]
Sikh mythology/concept: All forms of life including human beings came into being with a single word of God.
This theory has no scientific basis.
3. Theory of catastrophism: This is the modification of the theory of Special Creation. This theory was supported by French scientists Georges Cuvier and Orbigney. It states that there have been several creations of life by God, each preceded by a catastrophe resulting from some kind of geological disturbance. According to this theory, since each catastrophe completely destroyed the existing life, each new creation consisted of life form different from that of previous ones.
4. Theory of Panspermia/Cosmozoic theory: According to this theory, life has come to earth from other planets of the universe in the form of highly resistant spores of some organisms or microorganisms. Highly resistant spores : lead to life on earth, named as “cosmozoa or panspermia”. The cozmozoa were preserved inside meteorites. These meteorites struck into barren earth to release cosmozoa and help in development of various creature. This idea was proposed by Richter in 1865 and supported by Arrhenius (1908) and other contemporary scientists. This theory lacks evidence, hence it was discarded.
